Bankstream 940gns

Bankstream 940gns

A FRESHLY calved heifer by Nordkap took bidding to a top price of 940gns when Richard Jenkins offered the final portion of his Bankstream herd at Taunton.

The herd, which was based at North Newton near Bridgwater, sold its spring calving section in 1998 but the rising water table on the Somerset levels had forced Mr Jenkins to cease milk production.

The leading call came for Bankstream Nor Sybil, bred out of a cow by Bankstream Prepaired.

Other prices included 880gns and 800gns for calved heifers. Cows peaked at 780gns given for Bankstream Skybuck Sybil, a Hanoverhill Skybuck third calver bred out of a dam by Sharcombe Cortelle. She had a second lactation value of £1365 based on a milk price of 18.3p/litre.

Averages 34 cows £454, 33 calved heifers £606, and one in-calf heifer £462. (RB Taylor and Sons.) &#42
