Beef buck back with French government

THE French food safety agency has refused to say whether British beef is safe – leaving its government with the decision whether or not to lift the countrys ban.
The government had hoped the agency would give a lead on the issue, reports BBC Online, which described the agencys reply as “inconclusive”.
While many commentators had been optimistic that the agency would be satisfied with British safeguards on the safety of beef, French newspaper Le Monde reported today (Monday) that there were still doubts.
Concerns of the French food safety agency persuaded its government to retain a boycott of British beef after the EU lifted its ban in August. It reiterated this position in October.
