Belgian Blue bulls raise interest rate
JACK and Ann Morrison of Ballymoney were at the cutting edge of the fast trade for Belgian Blue bulls, Portadown, clinching the champion and reserve champion titles and top two prices with bulls from their Chatham herd.
Suckled calf producers and dairy farmers were out in force searching for new crossing sires from the selection. Chatham Prince, by Railway View Hector, combined carcass quality with mobility and was taken at 4500gns by Robert Killien, Londonderry.
Reserve ticket winner Chatham Opotiki, by Hazelwood Jupiter, made 4000gns to Raymond Hughes, Kircubbinn while Adrian and Clive Richardson of Maguiresbridge sold a blue and white bull from their Hillview herd – already a summer show winner – at 3500gns. The bull, by Urbi de Bois Borsu, goes to Joseph Whiteside, Londonderry.
And the Morrisons enjoyed more high prices when 3650gns was the final call for a Hector son taken by Jonathan Towens, Garvagh. And at 3450gns they sold another by Hector to level five all-white Chatham entries at £3896.
Ballylucas Popeye from Alan Cleland, Downpatrick, was bought by Sandra Hunter, Bushmills, for 3450gns. (Automart) *
