Biggest dairy farmer plans to quit

BRITAINS biggest dairy farmer plans to dispose of his entire herd due to the pricing crisis in the industry, reports the Daily Express.

Multi-millionaire Malcolm Pearce, who has a herd of 3,000 cows, lost 800,000 last year after the farmgate price dropped by 4ppl.

Mr Pearce, who lives near Bath, blames much of the crisis on big milk processors for paying low prices to farmers despite rising shop prices.

He warned that desperate farmers were considering holding back supplies to create a shortage and create a Government crisis worse than the fuel protests.

Look what happened when people were panic buying in the fuel crisis — it was bread and milk that everyone ran out of first, he told the Daily Mail.

He told the Express he will try to sell off his herd, but given the depressed market it may be cheaper to slaughter them.
