Bishop prays for farmers

BISHOP of Gloucester, the Rt Revd David Bentley, has urged people to stand by farmers and remember them in their prayers over the Christmas period.

He says there is growing despair among farmers, with many feeling lost and helpless and in need of support.

"All of them, especially meat producers, dairy, cereal and even fruit farmers are facing extreme pressures. At this season of peace and goodwill I would urge all Christians to stand by our farmers and remember them regularly in their prayers."

One of the special prayers issued by the bishop asks the government to act swiftly and fairly on behalf of all who feel their voice is not being heard. And for managers in business who buy goods for supermarkets and retail stores, that they will act responsibly both to shareholders and consumers, and to their suppliers in this country and throughout the world.
