Booker to release details of merger talks


BOOKER is expected to release details on Thursday of merger talks believed to have been held with Budgens, the small supermarket group.

Budgens proposal is expected to see Booker make and agreed offer to Budgens shareholders. Budgens chief executive John von Spreckelsen will run the enlarged group.

Supermarket chain Somerfield broke off merger talks with Booker last month saying the commercial risks outweighed the potential rewards.

Booker releases its interim results on Thursday.
