Bumper soya crop in Brazil

By FWi staff

BRAZILS leading soya bean-producing state is well on the way to record production, reports the Financial Times.

With one third of the crop harvested, Mato Grosso is yielding about 3100kg/ha compared the 1999/2000 record of 3020kg/ha.

Analysts say Mato Grosso will come close to producing 9 million tonnes of soya, while Brazil as a whole could produce 35m tonnes.

Brazil is the worlds second-biggest soya producer after the USA, and accounts for 20% of global supply.
