Calving painkiller

CALVING and its associated problems in dairy cows could be a much less painful experience with an aspirin like anti-inflammatory, Ketofen, launched at the Royal Show.

Merial Animal Health vet Roddy Webster explained that there was evidence proving that pain relief could speed up recovery from disease and increase productivity."Calving can involve a fair degree of discomfort, bruising and pain, particularly in heifers. An anti-inflammatory can reduce these unpleasant side effects and reduce painful udder swelling," he said.

He believes this will help fresh calvers appetites and milk production increase quickly after calving, reducing risk of other disease. &#42
