Chancellor Brown should address British countryside
The Independents economics editor has advised the Chancellor,
Gordon Brown, to address the environment in his Budget today.
Tax and spending changes have, over a generation or so, an enormous
impact on the environment. The transformation of the British
countryside, from the wheat fields of East Anglia to the Sitka spruce
plantations of Scotland, has been driven by tax breaks, the writer
says. The writer says there is much the Chancellor can do to address
these problems.
