Charollais ram steals top slot for 3000gns
SENIOR stock ram Rigghead Rebel made the top price of 3000gns when Ian and Jane Innes dispersed their noted Tullochallum Charollais flock.
Buyers were Dai and Cynthia Morris for their Penywern flock in Carmarthenshire.
A total of 268 females and four stock tups were brought south from their home in Aberdeenshire to be sold at Lichfield, Staffs, where a strong trade saw several females make four-figure bids.
High-priced females
Leading the ewes was a 1994-born entry bred by John Hunter, Aberdeenshire that made 2100gns to an Oxfordshire bidder. A shearling by Logan Golden Eye and in-lamb to Rebel realised 1700gns to Blair Dufftown, Aberdeenshire.
Young breeder Thomas Haydon Plant took several higher priced females to add to his flock at Leek, Staffs paying 1250gns for a two-shear by Crogham Cannon and in-lamb to Cairnhill Commander.
Foundation females for a new flock were secured by J Howells, Fordham, Essex who took several quality sorts giving up to 950gns. Ewes lambs were a strong trade with prices rising to 1100gns for a Rebel daughter.
AVERAGES: 67 ewe lambs £335; 139 ewes £409; 49 shearlings £459; 18 ram lambs £402 and four stock rams £1470. (Iain Thomson, United Auctions)n
