Checking out maps

A HAND-HELD navigation computer designed to enable farmers to create their own weed or soil maps, has been developed by Great Yarmouth-based Galaxy Precision Ag Services.

In use, the FieldWalker provides a continuous read-out of both Ordnance Survey and National Grid Reference co-ordinates to ensure compatibility with existing maps. The unit is also compatible with an office PC.

Costing £1750, the package includes a palmtop computer, software, GPS receiver, FM differential GPS receiver and rechargeable batteries.

With a subscription to an additional differential GPS signal, the manufacturer claims an accuracy of between 8-10m.
