Come & join us – you wont regret it…
THE question most often heard in FWC circles is what are all the young women doing instead of joining FWC?
In many cases the answer is that jobs, their own enterprises young children or children who need ferrying around prevents them attending day time meetings.
On a recent visit to the Cumbria Borders group I discovered a young farm woman who proves the point. Ann Thompson from Low Rigg Farm, Walton, Brampton, says she hopes to join when her children are older but at the moment she is busy bringing up a family, keeping free-range hens, taking in bed and breakfast guests on a dairy farm in addition to being a very skilled cookery demonstrator.
She put on a fine demonstration at Dalston village hall. Her theme was Christmas dishes and we were treated to some unusual recipes that I will certainly be trying out on family and friends.
A few days later I joined Derbyshire FWC at their Christmas lunch held at Shottle Hall Guest House, a comfortable converted farmhouse run by retired farmer Philip Matthews and his wife Phyllis.
This venture is the result of being on the FWC hospitality list and has just snowballed into a full-time business. The lunch was delicious and I have a cunning plan to book a walking weekend there some time in the future.
* Thoughts into action
I should like to take this opportunity to encourage any female reader who has thought about joining the Farm Womens Club to put her thoughts into action.
There are 61 groups scattered across England, Northern Ireland, Scot-land and Wales. But if there is not a club near to you and you have a few friends in your area who are also interested in the Farm Womens Club we may be able to get one going. In any case, dont delay, write to me today.
Your social life will improve. Theres nothing like having the companionship of like minded people to visit places of interest or have informal gatherings – and we even allow husbands and partners to join us on the weekends away advertised throughout the year.
