"Consumers face health risks from factory farming"
HUMANS are slowly being “poisoned” by the animals we eat because of unsafe intensive farming methods, according to Compassion In World Farming (CIWF).
The animal welfare charity “demands urgent action” on cleanliness, access to natural light and the outdoors, and overcrowding among farm animals.
It lists evidence of food-poisoning organisms which it says are encouraged by intensive rearing methods, and expresses concern over the level of antibiotics given to animals to fight disease – which could increase the bugs resistance to treatment.
