Conveyor reduces crop drop height
POTATOES do not like long falls, they bruise easily. The electrically driven conveyor on Tongs Easy-Fill box filler has a swan neck section at each end which is lowered automatically into a box at the start of filling, rising with the level of crop to maintain a constant 10cm (4in) drop.
When one box is full, the belt is automatically reversed to fill a box at the other end, the whole operation controlled by a micro processor working in conjunction with proximity sensors.
For safety – and presumably to prevent a big clear up operation – the line is stopped automatically if boxes are not removed when full or a box is not replaced. *
