Cullers kept waiting for cash

By FWi staff

SLAUGHTERMEN, vets, and contractors are still awaiting payment for work done two months ago in the foot-and-mouth crisis, reports The Daily Telegraph.

The Ministry of Agriculture said a backlog of invoices built up after clerical staff were re-deployed to fight the disease.

It said staff were now working to ensure payments were sent as soon as possible.

Farmers have also complained of delays in payment for animals slaughtered to control the epidemic.

The National Farmers Union raised the issue with Agriculture Minister Nick Brown and was assured that MAFF was getting to grips with the problem.
