Dalgety sells Scottish mill
DALGETY has sold its 65,000t animal feed business based at Turriff, Scotland, to North Eastern Farmers for an undisclosed sum.
NEFs existing site at Bannermill, Aberdeen, is being sold for retail development. Based at its new location the company will continue to produce its full range of feeds, as well as extend its range to include current Dalgety formulations under an annual arrangement fee.
"At Bannermill we faced a number of options – modernisation or building new, which both require extremely heavy investment, or acquiring a custom built plant and facilities," said NEF managing director, Brian Hutchison. "The Dalgety site at Turriff meets the requirements of the latter."
Recent sales by NEF of its fuels division, pet food compnay and processed oats business will have helped fund the acquisition.
Dalgety is believed to have spent over £1m in the past four years updating the mill.n
