Deadline eases quota sale price

MILK quota purchase prices eased this week as the new Mar 1 deadline looms.

Some people have only just realised that they have to lodge transfer forms with the Intervention Board a month earlier than last year, says Peter Weston Davies of the Farm Consultancy Group. Others have been spurred on by financial reasons.

"Low fat quota is trading at about 15p/litre, and 3.94% dealt at 16.25p, which would suggest 4% is worth about 16.5p/litre." A week ago it was worth about 17.75p.

Leased supplies are now being given away as lessors look to avoid confiscation. The IB has not been specific about how much has to be leased out to prevent quota being seized, so some producers are offering all their supplies for free, says ADAS Quota Direct.

Those with beef or sheep enterprises looking to maximise forage area are also offloading on to the lease market, says Mr Weston Davies. &#42
