Disappointing harvest

FROM oilseed rape to winter wheat, harvest has been a disappointment for Roger Douglas, who farms on heavy land near Louth in Lincolnshire. "Where the Wolds have done relatively well, we’ve struggled on the heavier land."

His Xi19 wheat seed crop for Advanta has been one of the better yielding crops at 10t/ha (4t/acre).

Consort feed wheat has been very variable, with wet land yielding as low as 3.7t/ha (1.5t/acre). "These bits were a complete disaster."

"I have never known a season like it. Its been a very disappointing year all round with oilseed rape performing poorly as well."
