WITH foot-and-mouth moving out of the headlines, it may be tempting to relax biosecurity measures. But this is a risky move, warns Cheshire vet Neil Howie.
"Many producers are suffering from sterilisation exhaustion and may be relaxing a little on biosecurity, which means now is a dangerous time."
Continue to think carefully about who comes on the farm and avoid visiting other farms.
And be prepared to question drivers of milk tankers and other delivery or collection vehicles, says Mr Howie. "Ask where they have been before visiting your unit. Also, be aware that the tiniest speck of muck can carry virus. " *
