THE internet is poised to bring big savings to vendors staging ram sales following a successful launch of internet stock shopping.
Introduced at the recent National Sheep Associations eastern regions tup sale at Thame, Oxon, an internet site promoting stock remaining unsold after the event had 2000 hits (visits) by interested breeders, says area ram sale chairman John Maxwell.
Although no stock has subsequently been sold, the idea is catching on: "It has certainly caught the imagination among breeders," believes Mr Maxwell.
In future, the site will hopefully be used to promote the full catalogue of tups entered for sales. Breeders should then be able to download the information to their own computers for viewing. That could help NSAs eastern region cut its annual print and post bill of £1500 significantly, adds Mr Maxwell. *
