EC to act against UK over illegal beef exports

THE European Commission is beginning legal proceedings against the UK after thousands of tonnes of British beef was found in Belgium and Germany in the summer.

The EC will send Britain a letter under the rules of “infringement proceedings”. This will state the evidence that exports took place. It will warn that the UK would face court proceedings if there were evidence to suggest that it failed to prevent the alleged breaches.
