EU accession farm talks start
THE EU is opening agriculture talks with six countries seeking membership, amid concerns about progress towards accession., reports the Financial Times.
Front-runners candidates — Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Slovenia and Cyprus — fear that EU states, particularly France and Germany and lack enthusiasm for enlargement.
The six want accession by 2003, but few in the EU believe this is possible.
Two days of talks start on Tuesday (13 June).
