EU green paper on food law released

AN EU Commission green paper has been released in Brussels to launch a public debate on EU food law.

The paper aims to spark debate in advance of proposals, set to be released in the autumn by EU farm commisioner Franz Fishler, for EU rules governing the entire food chain from stable to table.

The paper will in effect continue the debate, started by BSE, on whether existing rules offer a high level of consumer protection and whether controls and inspections are adequate.
