SLAUGHTERHOUSES should offer pig producers longer term contracts so they can borrow money from the bank to update units and cut costs, says building specialist AM Warkup. It believes banks are thwarting producers attempts to update their units because they cannot offer the security of long-term contracts; it adds that some US producers enjoy a 10-year, fixed margin over cost processing contract. *
