F&M claims British ploughing contest

THE British National Ploughing Championships, which were to be held on Oct 6 and 7 at Brougham, near Penrith, Cumbria, have been cancelled due to foot-and-mouth disease.

Ken Chappell, executive director of the Society of Ploughmen, says: "This is extremely disappointing for us, but the overwhelming view from the directors is the championships should not proceed in Cumbria or in a different area."

Despite the cancellation, Mr Chappell has not ruled out the possibility of holding a "selection match" at a future date to select the England teams for the 2002 World and European Ploughing Championships.

The 2002 British National Ploughing Championships are scheduled to take place on Oct 12 and 13 at Wilsic, near Doncaster, South Yorks.

&#8226 EIMA – Italys premier agricultural and horticultural machinery event is set to take place in Bologna from Nov 17-21. Larger than ever, the event will attract exhibitors from 40 countries. &#42
