Farmers get priority in rights of way plan
FARMERS and landowners applying for diversions to rights of way would get quicker decisions, under plans set out in the Countryside Commissions consultation paper, Rights Of Way In The 21st Century.
The proposal meets with disapproval from a reviewer of the consultation paper in The Guardian because the private interest of farmers and landowners “would take priority over the public interest”.
Other proposals in the paper advocate turning up to 20,000km of green lanes whose status has yet to be defined into byways for off-road motorists.
It also calls for the termination of any rights of way that are not recorded on maps by a cut-off date of 10 years from now.
