Fewer Scottish farms for sale
ESTATE agency FPDSavills reports the lowest supply of Scottish farms and estates for sale in 10 years.
At the end of November there was a 20% decrease in acreage and a 25% decrease in the number of units offered for sale, compared to the same date in 1989.
A total of 24,047ha (59,421 acres) had been advertised this year, compared to 56,658ha (140,000 acres) a decade ago.
The significant fall was in the mixed farm category, where 36 farms have come on the market in the last year, a fall of 54% on 1998
But there are marked regional variations with 60% of the acres for sale being in the south-west or north-east in Scotland.
FPDSavills has sold or purchased more than 40 farms in the last 12 months, around one third of the total acreage in Scotland which has changed hands.
