THE Keenan Klassik is the ultimate management tool for feeding flexibility whatever the silage quality available. This season grass silage quality is highly variable, so its particularly important to have the ability to incorporate a wide range of cost effective feedstuffs into dairy and beef rations.
* Structural fibre
Early cut and wet silages will require the addition of structural fibre (eg straw) to complement the leafy forage. If crude protein is high, quickly fermented energy (eg molasses, cereal) will be beneficial to use the soluble nitrogen.
* Maximising intakes
With mid to late season silages the aim is to maximise intakes. Supplementation with a purchased moist feed (eg brewers grains), is likely to be effective. Late season silages will need to be heavily supplemented with both energy and protein. The Klassik can be used to mix a simple TMR on-farm, and increase the productivity of silage.
* Cost-effective solution
Irrespective of silage quality the method of feeding is the key to maintaining rumen health. Feeding as TMR will minimise the risk of acidosis and digestive upset. Keenan System specialists work with the farmer to ensure the Keenan System provides a cost-effective solution to getting the best from available forage.
What should be added to early cut and wet silage this year?
