Food poisoning ‘hits 8.3m’

By FWi staff

AS many as 8.3 million Britons are hit by food poisoning each year, according to a report by food safety watchdogs.

The Food Standards Agency says figures are far greater than official data suggest and want hygiene improvements, reports the Daily Mail.

Official FSA estimates suggest there are up to 4.5m cases of food poisoning each year.

A massive 78% of those surveyed said they were fairly or very concerned about food safety, including 69% worried about raw meat.

Only 48% were confident about current food safety measures.

The study is based on a survey of 3153 people across Britain.
