Foot-and-mouth hits Netherlands
By FWi staff
THE first case of foot-and-mouth disease has been confirmed in the Netherlands.
The outbreak appeared in 60 cows and 20 sheep on a farm alongside the Issel river 50km from Doetinchem, in the south of the country.
Jan Bobbink, editor of FARMERS WEEKLYs sister title Boerderij, said a neighbouring farm with goats was also under investigation.
“Some people feel the outbreak will eventually be traced to sheep imported from Britain before 20 February,” he said.
That was the date of the first confirmed outbreak in Britain.
