Foot-and-mouth hits Zimbabwe
By FWi staff
FOOT-AND-MOUTH has broken out in Zimbabwe after squatters released infected animals from white-owned farms, reports The Daily Telegraph.
Cattle Producers Association chairman Timothy Reynolds said squatters had torn down farm fences releasing animals from quarantine areas.
Beef exports to the EU have already been halted, throwing into jeopardy the industry which earns Zimbabwe 27m a year.
The Telegraph says Zimbabwe may now not be able to take advantage of a 7100-tonne quota agreed with the EU and a 5000-tonne arrangement with South Africa.
