Free ventilation checks
FREE building ventilation checks are being offered this autumn to combat pneumonia when cattle are housed for winter.
Correcting ventilation and housing reduces pneumonia risk, says Justine Stewart, a vet with Intervet. "Cattle are at particular risk during times of stress, such as winter housing."
This prompted a joint initiative by Intervet and independent building designer Mike Kelly, which aims to help vets and producers assess buildings before housing.
The service is available through vets and requires producers to complete a simple form outlining disease history, building dimensions, herd management and stock ages. Suggestions are then made to reduce disease risk, adds Ms Stewart. *
