GM sugar made for slimmers
SCIENTISTS in the Netherlands have produced sugar which tastes sweet but is not fattening.
Using genes from the Jerusalem artichoke, scientists at the Centre for Plant Breeding and Reproduction Research in Wageningen have developed a sugar beet plant which makes a calorie-free sweetener known as a fructan,.
The Dutch groups work is reported in the science journal Nature Biotechnology.
