Good news for YFCs all round
YOUNG Farmers Clubs have welcomed a turnaround in the organisations financial performance and news that Prince Charles will become their president.
The National Federation of YFCs has reported a surplus of £5000 in the year to Dec 31.
It follows a trading deficit of more than £106,000 in the previous 12 months.
"Its very welcome news to all and its indicative of how things are moving in the right direction," says NFYFC chief executive Janet Gee.
The improvement is, she says, the result of reducing overheads.
"In future well be questioning much more closely how we spend money. We have to ask the question: This might be desirable, but it is essential?"
The Prince of Wales, meanwhile, has agreed to become President of the movement for two years from 2002. "A tremendous boost," says chairman Stephen Jarvis.
A spokesperson for Prince Charles said: "The organisation does so much for young people in rural communities and, at a time when the farming community is facing such real difficulties, His Royal Highness could not be more delighted to give it his full support."
