Good quality wheat on Yorkshire Farm
CALEY SACKUR, who farms near Driffield in Yorkshire, finished a successful wheat harvest on Monday (3 August). "We’ve finished in good time."
Quality and yield have both been pleasing. First crop Abbott yielded 10t/ha (4t/acre) and Hereward yielded 8.6t/ha (3.5t/acre). Late November drilled Consort yielded 8.6t/ha (3.5t/acre).
"I expected a little more from the Consort, but generally all the crops have done well considering the winter we’ve suffered." He says yields overall are average
Quality has been high for the milling wheat. "The first two or three fields, which were drilled and harvested in good time, had low Hagbergs, but since then the quality has been high."
Hagbergs since have been above 300, with 14% protein and specific weight of 82Kg/hl. "We’ve had some showery weather but not enough to spoil things. We’ve had a really good finish to harvest."
