Government U-turn on billboards?
By FWi staff
FARMERS hoping to generate extra income from billboards on their land have been dealt a blow by the Government, it is claimed.
Ministers have been forced into a U-turn over plans to relax controls on billboard advertising, reports The Times.
Opposition from rural groups fearing advertising boards will become a blight on the countryside forced ministers into a rethink, says the newspaper.
This creates a dilemma for the Government, which had trumpeted the move as a way for farmers to boost incomes and advertise new ventures.
A spokesman for the Department of the Environment said ministers were giving “careful consideration” to the public response.
This news comes after calls from the National Farmers Union called for every farmer publicise its little red tractor standards logo in their fields.
