Grain pest warning
INSECT infestations are a big cause of grain rejections, probably due to unusually warm weather since harvest, says Allied Grain.
Growers should check for pests before loading using an ordinary domestic sieve, since eradication using fumigation is cheaper than rejection, it says. Grain should then be cleaned, as some destinations reject grain containing dead insects. Clean grain should be protected by switching on fans on cold nights. *
