Harvest to forget

RICHARD HARRIS, who farms at Moulton north of Northampton describes this years harvest as, “one to forget.” He expects to finish winter wheat today.

Early drilled Consort and Claire are doing ok at 7.5t/ha (3t/acre) on lighter land. But second wheat on heavy ground has yielded 5t/ha (2t/acre).

“It was drilled from 25th September onwards, but from October onwards the crops were mauled in until January. They were drilled into wet soil or then lay wet all winter.”

He has been pleased with the weather, which has allowed him to avoid a lot of drying costs. Most of the crop has been harvested
