Heifer gains title
HAVING served her purpose as a recipient, a heifer bought in the summer carrying an embryo was entered for the Lancaster Holstein Sales monthly fixture and stood champion for owner Mark Towers who runs the Aldingham herd at Ulverston, south Cumbria.
Castlerhydd Bequest 190 is by Hanoverhill Raider and out of a Quality Tammys Sheik cow. The heifer, which had been calved three weeks, was giving 30 litres on sale day. Shes bred from seven generations of VG and EX dams and was judge Ian Watsons choice for the title.
He went on to buy the heifer for 1600gns for his herd in Coleraine, Northern Ireland and also paid 1650gns for the reserve champion from Carl Smith, St Michaels, near Preston.
His Carlhaven Fatal Sue (Pedigree Index – £PLI +£85) is out of the show cow Oakridges 1 Sue, an 11,000kg daughter of Hanoverhill Inspiration.
