High-tech Magnum line is all set for Smithfield debut

By Andy Collings

A NEW line of Case IH MX Series Magnum tractors is due to make its UK debut at this years Smithfield show.

The new models, designated MX180, MX200, MX220, MX240 and MX270, are rated 180, 200, 220, 240 and 270hp respectively. They bring the number of MX models to 11, ranging from 100hp to 270hp.

Case has incorporated a high level of technology into the new models. It says the Controller Area Network (CAN) allows tractors to monitor and adjust performance over their service life, recognising the effects of long-term use.

CAN also incorporates a self-diagnostic feature which links the tractors systems and controls to a single-point computer connection to allow quick identification of problems.

Power for the new models is supplied by a 24-valve, 8.3-litre engine – the result of a Case Cummins joint venture. The engines are mounted in a chassis some 50cm (20in) further forward than previous models to improve weight distribution when handling rear-mounted implements.

Transmission comprises an electronically controlled 18 x 4 powershift complete with power shuttle with the option of a six-speed creeper box.

Changes to the hydraulic linkage are claimed to have transferred the centre of gravity forward to improve overall traction. Lift capacity for the new models is rated at 7250kg, employing a hydraulic system with a 140 litres (30gal) per minute capacity.
