Human ‘BSE’ deaths rise
THE death toll from the human form of BSE has risen sharply, prompting an investigation by the governments scientific advisers, reports The Guardian.
The number of people in Britain now thought to have been made ill by infected beef has risen to 67, says the paper.
The figure is 25 up on last year, it adds, although “comparisons are difficult because of changes in the way the inevitably fatal condition is confirmed”.
Advisers will consider the latest statistics at a meeting next week, but it will be a further fortnight before they announce their conclusions.
