HYDRO Chafers sprayer line-up is set to receive a lift from three directions – the introduction of a new trailed range, the launch of a mid-range self-propelled machine and the development of a GPS system.
The trailed E Series, when compared to earlier designs feature slighter and stronger booms, it is claimed. However, the use of stainless steel tanks and hydraulically driven pumps has been retained.
Hydro Chafer is at pains to point out that the E Series has a modular build to allow components to be altered to suit specific needs – a larger or smaller tank can be fitted, for example.
Due to be available for the 98 season, the mid-range Chafer Mirage is said to draw on the success of its elder brother – the Chafer Mistral – and be aimed at the smaller end of the self-propelled market.
Equipped with a John Deere designed cab, the four-wheel drive Mirage is powered by a transversely mounted 108hp Cummins four cylinder engine. Drive is hydrostatic.
Spraying equipment comprises a 2000- or 2500-litre tank capacity – a clean water reservoir is mounted at the bottom of the tank beneath a sloping floor – and new lightweight booms with widths from 18m-24m.
Next year Hydro Chafer is due to conduct trials of a GPS system for its sprayers. The aim, says the company, is to produce a cost-effective, simple package which can be used by all farmers.n
