NEW Iceland chief executive Bill Grimsey is going back to the shop floor before officially joining the frozen foods group in the new year.
Mr Grimsey, who joins from DIY retailer Wickes, said he was delighted to return to the food industry, reports The Independent.
He said he would be working in Iceland stores before Christmas, “not as a gimmick, but because its where we make money selling products”.
Iceland shares rose 7.5p to 346p, valuing the group at 1.2 billion.
Meanwhile, Safeway has launched the first of its “new concept” stores at St Katharines Dock, near Wapping, London, reports the newspaper.
The store aims to achieve “retail theatre” through chefs cooking up Chinese meals in front of customers and throwing pizzas for entertainment.
