BOXHEAD: ORGANIC STATS AT A GLANCE

BOXTEXT: Total UK organic and in-conversion land: 619,852ha (8% down on 2005), representing nearly 4% of the total agricultural area
England (291,578ha), Wales (70,832ha) and Northern Ireland (9,513ha) increased slightly, while Scotland (247,930ha) decreased 97,000ha due to a reduction in permanent pasture
In total there are 4285 organic producers and growers in the UK (up 1%) and 2128 processors and/ or importers (up 31%)
65% of all organic producers are based in England
