CLOSING date for entries in the Institute of Brewings 1997 National Malting Barley Competition (England and Wales) is Oct 13. "Despite the dramatic changes in weather this year, which have resulted in a much more variable malting barley crop, we are sure there are quality samples throughout the country," says spokesman Alan Macdonald.
