IN BRIEF
• MILK quota values have slipped again in response to falling milk prices and reduced demand. Broker Townsend Chartered Surveyors quotes 4% clean quota at 46p/litre which, bought on borrowed money and written off by 2006 equates to 7p/litre a year. Leased quota is now reported at 9p/litre.
• MIDLANDS Co-op Dairies, through its Heart of England Co-operative, has closed its books to new members now that direct supplies account for 80% of its intake. Over 250 farmers have joined since November 1994, with their milk now worth up to 22.25p/litre.
• BRITISH Airways and Welsh Food Promotions have signed a contract for Welsh branded butter to be supplied from the CWS Llangadog creamery for World Traveller Class flights.
