• THIS years exceptionally dry April could produce some very good oilseed rape yields, says NIAB. The reason is that much of the nitrogen applied by growers was not taken up by plants until after flowering, says oilseeds specialist Simon Kightley. That means excessive canopy growth has been avoided and much more of the fertiliser has been concentrated into pod and seed production.
