Intervention beef upsets wholesalers

FARMERS and wholesalers fear that the sale of European Union (EU) intervention beef on to the open market will suppress prices, reports The Herald.

The paper reports that more than 80,000 tonnes of beef is held in UK intervention stores, out of the EUs total store of 430,000t.

Last months sale saw only 500t hit the market, but 672t of forequarter and flank are being made available for tender this week..
