Jack seeks beef ideas
SHADOW farm minister Michael Jack has written to the farm ministers in all other EU member states asking them what, in their view, Britain needs to do to win their support for an entire lifting of the beef export ban.
"The lifting of the beef export ban from Northern Ireland last month was excellent news for farmers in that part of the UK. But all this good news will mean nothing to farmers in the rest of the UK unless it soon leads to a clear and agreed timetable for a total lifting of the ban," Mr Jack said this week.
But, despite the UK having met all the criteria required by the Florence Agreement, there was still a reluctance from other member states to allow a full resumption of UK beef exports, he added. "We believe that Britains beef producers have a right to know just what stands in the way of having the beef ban lifted."
