Kent farmers markets win funding

Farmers markets in Kent are to receive a major boost over the next two years through funding from the Kent Rural Revival partnership.

Kent County Councils Rural Revival Initiative and Kentish Fare, the producers consortium, teamed together to inject a 10,000 package.

The aim is to assist small and medium size growers to sell, market and distribute their produce to local consumers.

Help will be in the form of publicity, guidance and training, and in ensuring public awareness of dates and venues.

Michael Barry, chairman of Kentish Fare, said the move would be good for farmers and consumers.

He added: The support we have received from KCCs Rural Revival Initiative will help farmers markets to thrive

Charlotte Bullock, co-ordinator for the National Association of Farmers Markets, said farmers markets still had a long way to go.

“The more initiatives that are set up the better and the move by Kent County Council can only be a positive move forward, she added.
